Ignite your inner flame



Our life force is the key to our survival. Without it, we cease to exist. Our life force, which the Chinese call Chi, the Japanese call Ki and Ayurveda calls Prana, has been described as the vital energy that breathes life into our bodies. Our life force is the guardian of our minds, our bodies and our Souls.

Asking the right question – “Will this choice add to my life force or will it rob me of my energy?” – allows us to see whether the choice we are about to make will strengthen our life force and support us in keeping our inner flame roaring, strong and vibrant, or will rob us of our vital energy. We each have a choice, and with each action we either feed or starve our life force. This question immediately reminds us that every choice, decision and action we take has an impact on our deepest selves and our sense of well-being.  Most us take our life force for granted. We unconsciously go about our lives thinking that we are immortal, taking our health for granted and ignoring the needs of our bodies. But in the moments when we are fully awake, we cannot help but feel and appreciate the great gift that has been bestowed on us – the gift of being alive.

If each of us were present to how precious our life force is, we would care for it as we would a newborn child. We would live in awe of the miracle of our existence. When we awake to the preciousness of life, we go through our days respecting the fact that our life force needs feeding and nourishment. We automatically ask ourselves how we can take care of and protect this precious energy.  Each day we are faced with a multitude of choices. We decide what we will eat, how much rest and exercise we will give our bodies, and at what pace we will go about our daily activities. Each choice we make either adds to our life force or robs us of our vitality.

In essence we are either growing or dying, expanding or contracting. Every time we make a choice to nurture our life force, we choose life. Each time we choose actions that drain us of our energy; we are weakening our internal flame.  It is so easy to forget that our bodies are a delicate gift – a temporary home for our Souls. It is usually only in times of great pain – such as when we are faced with the death of a loved one or a serious illness – that we are aware of the impermanence of life. In those moments when we come face-to-face with our own mortality or that of our loved ones, we become profoundly aware of how important it is to make choices that strengthen, rather than deplete, our life force. When our life force is threatened, we desperately look to the outer world to regain our lost vitality.

Life is a miraculous gift. Yet, as many of us move through time, we seem to have forgotten.

We have grown weary, disconnected, distracted or detached. We have lost our connection with our inner fire – our unique experience of being alive and belonging.

Do you remember the light that used to shine from your eyes when you were a child? Do you recall what you once believed was possible for your life? Have you had a moment of awakening, when you knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that who you are is essential, important and needed; that your life was designed to fulfill a great and holy purpose? These are moments when you came face to face with your highest self; when you were in the presence of all your many gifts, had the freedom to applaud your uniqueness and acknowledge yourself for all that you are and all that you do well.

If you are like most adults however, you have lost sight of all that makes you supremely beautiful. You might have been told that it is conceited to acknowledge yourself for being insightful, loving, talented or smart; or that downplaying the best parts of yourself actually makes you a better person.

Maybe regret or disappointment have obscured the sight of your most beautiful, courageous, audacious self, but I promise you, it is still there – in the same way the sun continues to shine even when it is obscured by clouds or by the fall of night. To free yourself from the shackles of mediocrity, you must reclaim your inner beauty and be willing to show it to the world.

We give up our power too easily to people, places, situations and circumstance. We can lose ourselves in the tangible and material aspects of life. It is only through claiming that power back that we can begin to start changing things for ourselves, external of other influences. Your power is found in your authenticity and everything that sets you apart from anyone else. When you box yourself into other peoples’ values, structures and beliefs, you drift further away from what lies at the very heart of you, your own truth.

My wish for you with this course is to ignite that seed within you, giving it life and infusing it with infinite energy and passion, bringing forth your own magnificence and living life with no regrets.
